    • Sinatra, Frank (Francis Albert) [sɪˊnɑ:trǝ] Синатра, Фрэнк ( Фрэнсис Алберт) (1915—98), популярный певец и киноактёр.     1916-2002
       El reconocimiento critico a George Sidney es menor del que, en justicia, le corresponde. Empieza en Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, donde permanecera hasta 1955, dirigiendo cortos comicos de la serie Our Gang y de Pete Smith. Despues, es promovido a director de filmes de serie B, pero es su llegada a la unidad de produccion de Arthur Freed la que marcara su futuro como gran especialista del musical. La mayor parte de su filmografia esta impregnada, de un modo u otro, por este genero, aunque, en principio, la trama corresponda a un genero distante de el. Existe un ejemplo modelico: Los tres mosqueteros (The Three Musketeers, 1948), filme basado en la famosa novela de Alexandre Dumas, despide aroma de musical a lo largo de todo su metraje. Un detalle deberia darle la pista al no iniciado: la presencia, como protagonista, de Gene Kelly, que tambien trabajo con Sidney en Levando an clas (Anchors Aweigh, 1945). Lo dicho en relacion con Los tres mosqueteros es tambien aplicable a Scaramouche (1952). Deja Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer despues de dirigir a Esther Williams en La amada de Jupiter (Jupi- ter’s Darling, 1955) y se establece como productor independiente para Columbia. Mucho antes habia dirigido dos estupendos westerns. Si leemos su ficha artistica percibiremos de inmediato que lo dicho en relacion con la querencia de Sidney por el musical es aplicable a ellos.
